Extensions for Joomla! 4.x • Re: SEO and 404

I wouldn't use an SEO extension. Joomla already has SEO capabilities, such as meta description and SEF URLS. The main thing is to ensure your site's content is relevant then submit it to your search engines, or just wait for the search engines to crawl and index your site. (*my opinion* only of course).

With 404 pages, I recall Joomla used to have a method to create a custom 404 but I think it's more easily done external to Joomla.

Create your custom error pages, and reference them through the ErrorDocument (or equivalent) directive in your .htacess (or equivalent file) on your web server.

You might find on the web templates for 404, 500, 403 and so on errors. You could also design the error pages in Joomla, then export them by viewing them in the browser then viewing the source code, copy that source code to a separate file (text editor like notepad++) and save it as 404.html or 500.html (and so forth as relevant).m If you need to make changes, repeat the process, edit the joomla version of the page, make the change, and export as above and reupload the file.

Here's the reference about the custom errors, I'm not sure in current Joomla versions if this method still works.
