I am sorry if I was unclear. I have written a guide for the client since they have never worked with Joomla before, and in that guide I illustrated how to embed PDF-files using the CMS menu in TinyMCE and then clicking on Media. The file explorer opens fine and they can upload PDF-files but when they click Insert the error occurs. This statement is a little confusing to me:First, you say inserting links to the PDF file doesn't work but then instruct your users to insert a link to the file. When inserting a PDF-file through the CMS-button > Media to upload a PDF-file they experience an error. TinyMCE editor. Embedding the PDF-file works but not inserting a link to the file. As a workaround I have instructed them to just make a regular link to the PDF-files.
Perhaps JCE Editor would be better? (Try that and see and get your users to test it). You can create a specific "profile" in JCE to customise the editor with the relevant toolbar buttons (or exclude any that aren't relevant).
As a workaround I have told them how to upload a PDF-file and then link to the file with http but they don't like it.
I have tested JCE and I get the same error there which makes me believe it has do to directly with Joomla and not the editor.
